iPhoneography : My Little Skater Boy

Yesterday my son asked me if I had blogged his skateboard pictures yet. After the initial shock of my kid asking about my little photo blog that I didn’t realize he knew or cared anything about, I realized that I totally should blog his pictures. You see, he’s excited about these pictures because he just got this skateboard for his birthday. I hadn’t blogged about his birthday yet because I was planning on dragging him out for birthday pictures (which I will still do) with his brand new skateboard in tow. These iPhone snaps are from his very first ride on any skateboard, ever. I fully expected him to rock at skateboarding because he has crazy awesome balance and because, well, I don’t know, I just did. But, never in a million years did I expect him to just hop on and start skating like he knew what he was doing. I saw him fall exactly one time that first day and that was only after I heard the words “Hey Mom, look! I’m gonna do an awesome trick.” **CRASH**

Have I mentioned how much I love my iPhone for taking pictures? No? Oh, well I super love my iPhone for taking pictures. There, I said it.

What to Wear (actually, how I dressed my family for our pictures)

Clients are always asking me what to wear for their session and I’m always happy to help guide them along and give my suggestions. However, sometimes a picture works better than words when trying to explain how to coordinate without being too matchy-matchy. How would I dress my family for family pictures? Well, take a look at the fabulous family pictures my sweet and talented friend Jenny Watts took of us a couple weeks ago

When I’m choosing clothing I always start with one colorful piece and work from there, something I really love. Ideally, Mom’s outfit would be settled first because that’s usually the hardest one to choose (at least for me, it is!) I, of course, did not do that. I found that little red dress my littlest is wearing for $8 at Old Navy and I fell in love with it; I loved the bright primary colors and the classic style of the dress. It was my inspiration for the rest of us. I did things completely backwards and bought my dress last. Although, I did feel pretty comfortable using primary colors and knew I’d be able to find something that I loved.

Shot of Inspiration | Week Seven: Wings

Wings! What a fun assignment and how fitting that I just got back in town from a little weekend escape. I hopped on a plane and headed to St. Louis to visit my fabulous friend Beth. We ate at some delicious restaurants, went sightseeing, and visited with some of her friends. It was super exciting for me since I don’t get out much (I’ve got all these kids running around the house demanding my attention most days). I did take some photos with my camera, but I just loved these from my iphone so much that I decided to use them for my post. Of course, I couldn’t just post one.

My assignment this week was “bloom” and we had another birthday this week too, so lots of photos to share in this post! The first shot is most definitely my shot of inspiration. I took my daughter out for a photo shoot to celebrate turning 4 years old (and her new haircut!) and she ran straight to the flowers to start picking them. The others are just some of my favorites from the short but super sweet shoot. She’s so good to me

Shot of Inspiration | Week Five: Perspective

This week’s assignment was perspective. I took my daughter out for her 2nd birthday shoot and she was totally obsessed with the dandelions. I was concentrating so hard on trying to capture her smiling and blowing the seeds around that I almost forgot about my assignment. When I stood up I decided to get a quick snap of her and I just love it. I don’t shoot from this perspective very often because it can often look like a snapshot. It’s just the typical parents looking down at their kids perspective. I’m glad I did. It wasn’t planned out or creatively obsessed about, it was just a happy accident

Her First Practice | McKinney Child T-Ball Photographer

Yesterday was my daughter’s very first t-ball practice and man did she love it! She’s been watching her brother play for several years now and has been patiently waiting her turn. She had the choice of any sport or activity and she chose baseball without hesitation! I think she was a bit surprised to see that she was the only girl on the team, but that didn’t stop her from proudly swinging her bright pink bat and showing off her batting skills taught to her by her big brother (he was very intent on making sure she was ready for her first practice!) All in all, it was a great night. After practice she was beaming with joy and running around with an excitement I have never seen from her before. She had finally gotten the spotlight and was so very proud of herself. As we were walking to the truck after practice she sighed and said “I didn’t want to play a little bit of baseball, I wanted to play A LOT of baseball.” I guess practice wasn’t quite long enough for her
